Use the soft knob to simply adjust to the desired slice thickness, and slide the food over the stainless steel blade for perfect, even slices. A clear surface shows slices accumulating below.     I wanted a mandoline to handle basic, daily slicing needs, nothing fancy and not expensive. This hand held mandoline by OXO fits the bill! I love it for slicing vegetables into consistent slices for casseroles, salads, or just crudite. Then just a quick wash and back into the drawer. There's even a locked setting for safety. Perfect!

    This item seems to work well with potatoes and onions but seems to make mush out of tomatoes.

    This is one of the best gadgets I have acquired. It makes short work of slicing and cutting a few items, and I did bnot have a clue about how much we would enjoy using this! Highly recommend!!

    Have not used it, but looks like it would work well. however, I read the online description too hurriedly, or not wtih great enough detail because I thought it would do juliennne strips, my primary purpose
